Diversity in Kinesiology

Diversity Statement

The Department of Applied Physiology, Health, and Clinical Sciences believes strongly that our intellectual community is enriched by the inclusion of diverse faculty, staff, and students. We define this diversity broadly to include (but not be limited to) race, ethnicity and national origins, gender and gender identity, sexuality, age, education, socioeconomic status, and religion. As a Department, we identify and promote practices and structures that support diversity development in the Department’s work. We especially encourage individuals from underrepresented groups to join our intellectual community.

The inclusion of underrepresented groups across the Department is important:

(1) to address and understand health and wellness disparities

(2) to facilitate the inclusion of diverse leaders with diverse ideas within the discipline.

(3) to cultivate an inclusive civil discourse among diverse parties.

We are committed to providing the support necessary for the success of all members of the Department.

Anti-Racism Statement

As a Department, we wish to state our position on the nature of racism in the United States and throughout the world. The Department of Applied Physiology, Health, and Clinical Sciences is a caring community that values and respects diversity and upholds the principles of social justice. We take a stand against racism, and we vow to foster open discussions about issues of race and all other forms of discrimination and how it impacts us, our students and the world around our campus. We resolve to take action in response to injustice and inequity that we identify and to publicly affirm our status as an anti-racism educational unit.
